I am a documentary filmmaker working between China and the West.
I produce and direct TV for BBC, PBS, ARTE, Al Jazeera, DR, Vice, and many more international broadcasters. Some of my producing work in Wuhan during the beginning of the pandemic recently won a Dupont, America's most prestigious award for broadcast journalism.
I learned how to make films in Denmark and still often work with Danish creative doc outfit House of Real. My feature doc Dream Empire, funded by Sundance and the Danish Film Institute, toured the festival circuit in forty countries. My shorts have been featured on NYTimes OpDocs.
In recent years, I've done radio documentary at BBC World Service, where my pieces reach an average of 100 million listeners.
I'm a fluent Mandarin speaker and former Fulbright researcher in China. Before entering the documentary field, I was the saxophonist in 热超波 (rèchāobō), China's first ska-punk band. As the modestly out-of-place jazz musician in a legendary group of Chinese punks, I found myself playing festivals and underground venues across China.
Don't hesitate to reach out if you want to screen one of my films, collaborate on a project in China, or just shoot the breeze.
